Stop Animation Deep Dive

Helen Murray

Thank you to our fabulous facilitator Tom for today's engaging and creative Deep Dive on Stop Animation and to all the children and parents who helped make it a fun and productive session.

Inspired by interests arising at Curiosity Hub, the session explored key principles of animation, children made their own hand-drawn flip books and used digital apps to film and create stop motion sequences using their own bodies, props provided or that they'd brought with them.

I'm sure the creativity won't stop there and welcome anyone who took part to share videos they made at the workshop or subsequently by uploading to this album (parents please ensure these are child-friendly and you have child's permission to share and consent of anyone whose face appears in it).

One of the things I'm loving about the Waymakers model as we progress through our pilot year is how parents are supporting us in upholding the Waymakers values and how interests and projects are emerging and being carried across different types of sessions and ways of accessing learning. As Waymakers is a supplement to home education rather than education provision in itself, it's always lovely to hear how things that start off as an idea at a weekly session or get explored briefly at a Deep Dive turn into a bigger project at home. The free app the children used for anyone else who is interested was: https://www.stopmotionstudio.com/try.html (children who didn't attend welcome to add their creations to the album too - we'd all love to see!)
